Renowned Manipuri folk singer, Mangka Mayanglambam, recently returned from a successful tour to Switzerland and France with her father, Oja Mangangsana Mayanglambam. During the tour, they performed Manipuri folk music live in five different locations, as well as participating in a masterclass and an interaction programme. The tour was organised by the Maolkeki Foundation (MKF) and was hailed as a great success in promoting and preserving the Manipur culture.

Speaking to the media, Mangka emphasised the importance of promoting cultural pride and explained that performing arts is not about competition or awards. “Cultural performance is all about showcasing the pride of Manipur. Nothing is more valuable than this,” she said. Mangka also stressed the need for organising classes for adult students in the state, stating that it would allow them to pursue their ambitions or hobbies after retirement and make them feel young.

During the tour, Mangka also had the opportunity to perform the Pena fusion with Alphorn, a folk instrument of Switzerland, along with renowned artist Enrico Lenzin. Lenzin will be visiting Manipur in 2024 to give live performances in different locations.

The tour was a significant achievement for Mangka and her father, and they were felicitated by the chairman of Babina Groups, Dr Th Dhabali, at Hotel Classic Grande in Imphal. The programme also witnessed the head of projects of the Maolkeki Foundation, Nirupa Sanjenbam.
