A video clip of Maryam Nawaz, daughter of former Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, has gone viral on social media platforms. The video shows Maryam stopping a journalist from airing a question about allegedly possessing a BMW car. The incident occurred during an interview, which did not air the clip, but it has been widely circulating on social media.

In the clip, Maryam can be heard denying ownership of a BMW car after the interviewer questions her. However, the anchor quotes a Joint Investigation Team (JIT) report, which shows that the car was gifted to her by the UAE Royal Family and was sold for a profit in 2011-12. The controversy arose when the value of the car was declared as Rs 3.5 million in Maryam’s income tax returns for the year 2009-10, while it was declared to be sold for Rs 19.66 million in 2011-12. Such price escalation is considered abnormal and raised eyebrows.

The incident has sparked reactions from social media users, with the opposition Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Fawad Chaudhry sharing a clipping of the interview on Twitter, mocking Maryam’s response. In response, the PML-N defended Maryam’s response, stating that she did not lie but instead, didn’t have adequate information to answer the question.
