Miley Cyrus and Mae Muller Shake Up UK Music Charts
Miley Cyrus has achieved a significant milestone in the UK music charts by topping both the singles and album charts in the same week. The achievement comes after the release of her eighth studio album, Endless Summer Vacation, which debuted in the top spot on the album chart. Additionally, her single,
Flowers has spent its ninth consecutive week at number one, tying with Olivia Rodrigo’s Drivers License as the longest-running number-one single by a female
solo artist this decade.
Flowers, which is said to be about the end of her marriage to actor Liam Hemsworth, has regained its position as the most-streamed song of the last seven days, overtaking the viral smash hit, Boy’s A Liar Pt. 2 by PinkPantheress and Ice Spice.
The reviews for Endless Summer Vacation have been mostly positive, commending Cyrus’s vulnerability and songwriting, while criticizing that some of her rougher edges have been smoothed out. The album is said to encourage listeners to press play again, with its honest and cohesive storytelling, and offers a remarkably intriguing insight into Cyrus’s post-divorce state of mind.
Mae Muller, the UK Eurovision entrant for 2023, has debuted at number 30 on the UK charts with her single, I Wrote A Song. This is her first Top 40 single as a solo artist, having previously reached number 32 in 2021 as the vocalist on Better Days, a collaboration with producer Neiked and US rapper Polo G.
In an interview with the BBC’s Eurovisioncast podcast, Muller revealed that she had been sitting on the secret of her selection as the UK’s hopeful for a couple of months. Muller’s chart debut marks the first time a UK act has entered the chart in advance of Eurovision since Blue in 2011.
