The Haryana government has selected renowned actor Mita Vashisht as the new chairperson of the governing council responsible for overseeing the Haryana Film and Entertainment Policy’s implementation. This appointment followed the unfortunate passing of director, producer, and actor Satish Kaushik, who previously held the position.

Mita Vashisht brings a wealth of experience to her new role, boasting an impressive career in the entertainment industry with appearances in 43 films, numerous television serials, web series, and theater productions. Beyond her on-screen work, she has contributed to esteemed institutions such as the National School of Drama (NSD), National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT), National Institute of Design (NID), Whistling Woods International (WWI), and even served as the head of the acting department at the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII).

The council’s co-chairman will be the administrative secretary of the information, public relations, languages, and culture department, with the director general of the same department acting as the member secretary. Other council members include administrative secretaries from the tourism and art and cultural affairs departments, the vice-chancellor of the State University of Performing and Visual Arts in Rohtak (or their representative), the media adviser to the Haryana chief minister, and seven non-official nominees chosen by the state government.

The governing council’s primary responsibilities involve approving projects and disbursing funds in line with the Haryana Film and Entertainment Policy. Additionally, the council will serve as an advisory body, offering guidance to the executive committee to ensure effective implementation of the policy’s provisions. Mita Vashisht’s appointment underscores the Haryana government’s commitment to promoting and developing the state’s film and entertainment industry under her capable leadership.
