Narayana Murthy and wife Sudha urge youth to vote in Karnataka polls.
Narayana Murthy and his wife Sudha Murthy, both in their mid-70s, set an example of civic responsibility when they woke up early to cast their votes in the Karnataka Assembly Elections. Sudha Murthy shared a message to the younger generation, encouraging them to follow their example and exercise their right to vote. Sudha said, “Please look at us. We are oldies but we get up at 6 o’clock, come here and vote. Voting is a sacred part of democracy.”
She expressed her concern that many young people today are apathetic toward politics and are not interested in participating in the democratic process. She urged them to recognize the importance of their vote and to take the time to cast it, as it is a crucial step in shaping the future of the country.
Sudha Murthy emphasized that every vote counts, and it is important for each citizen to exercise their right to vote to ensure that their voices are heard. She also encouraged young people to educate themselves about the candidates and their platforms before casting their votes.
Narayana Murthy echoed his wife’s message, saying that voting is not just a right, but also a duty that every citizen owes to their country. He emphasized that voting is the most effective way for people to have a say in how their country is governed.
The couple’s message comes at a time when voter turnout in India has been low, particularly among young people. In the 2019 general elections, for example, only 46% of voters aged 18-19 exercised their right to vote.
