Nina Singh: CISF Trailblazer
Nina Singh, a 1989-batch Indian Police Services graduate from the Rajasthan cadre, has made history as the first female Chief of the Central Industry Security Force (CISF). The Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances, and Pensions of the Government of India announced Singh’s appointment as Director General, marking a significant milestone. She will hold this apex rank until her retirement on July 31 next year.
Singh’s illustrious career includes advocating for women’s safety and rights since her early days in the Indian Police Services. As the member secretary for the State Women’s Commission in 2000, she implemented an outreach program, conducting hearings in various districts to support women in need.
Singh holds a Master’s degree in Public Administration from Harvard University and completed her foundational education at Patna Women’s College and Jawaharlal Nehru University. She has been recognized for her professional excellence with the Ati Utkrisht Seva medal in 2020.
Before becoming the CISF Chief, Nina Singh served as the Special Director General of the CISF since 2021. The CISF is responsible for securing airports nationwide, safeguarding sensitive installations in aerospace and nuclear domains, and ensuring security on the Delhi Metro.
Nina Singh has a history of breaking barriers in the police force. In 2021, she became the first female officer to achieve a DG ranking in the Rajasthan State. Prior to this, Singh served as the Joint Director of the Central Bureau of Investigation from 2013 to 2018, overseeing high-profile cases such as the Sheena Bora murder case and the Jiah Khan suicide case.
With a trailblazing career marked by achievements and a commitment to women’s rights, Nina Singh’s appointment as the CISF Chief reflects her continued dedication to leadership and service within the Indian Police Services.
