Sitharaman discusses multilateral engagement and G20 agenda

Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has been busy during her week-long trip to the US, meeting with finance ministers from several countries to discuss multilateral development and G20 agenda. On Tuesday, Sitharaman met with US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen and Saudi Arabian Finance Minister Mohammed Aljadaan in Washington.

During the meeting, they discussed the global debt crisis and ways to strengthen multilateral development banks. Yellen shared an image of their meeting on Twitter and highlighted their engagement on shared priorities such as combatting climate change and evolving the multilateral development banks. They also discussed the importance of coordinated global action to address debt vulnerability in low and middle-income countries.

Sitharaman emphasized the importance of further cooperation in addressing global economic challenges, including climate change, and highlighted the role of G20, QUAD, and IPEF in fostering the partnership between India and the US. She also discussed the need for financial support to help developing economies achieve their climate goals.

During her meeting with Aljadaan, they discussed the progress made on the G20 agenda and the World Bank Evolution Roadmap. They also talked about the urgent need to tackle increasing global debt distress and improve the implementation of the Common Framework.
