Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra extended her support to the women wrestlers protesting against the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) chief, Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, who has been accused of sexual harassment by seven female wrestlers. Priyanka met the protestors at Jantar Mantar and called for Singh’s immediate removal from the post so that he can no longer exert pressure on wrestlers and hamper their careers. She demanded that the wrestlers be given copies of FIRs as they do not know the Indian Penal Code sections applied. Priyanka further accused the government of “protecting” Singh and asked why they were “saving this man.” She called on the prime minister to speak to the wrestlers and help them raise their voice against exploitation. Priyanka was accompanied by ace women wrestlers such as Sakshi Malik and Vinesh Phogat. She further urged women to stand in solidarity with wrestlers and help them fight against harassment. The Delhi Police filed two FIRs against Singh after seven women wrestlers lodged complaints against him. Priyanka had earlier expressed her support for the protesting wrestlers and slammed the government for ignoring their pleas. She said that the arrogance of a party and its leaders crushes such voices. Congress leaders, Bhupinder Hooda, Deepender Hooda, and Udit Raj had also joined the protestors earlier to express solidarity with them.
