Registered dietitian Bhavya Dhir has cautioned people against replacing roti with bread, stating that bread can never replace the nutrient value of roti. Dhir explained that bread is made from maida or refined flour, which is low in fiber and can lead to constipation, bloating, and weight gain. On the other hand, roti is made from whole wheat flour and is high in fiber, which aids digestion and promotes weight loss.
Dhir further added that roti contains essential nutrients such as vitamins, minerals, and protein, making it a healthier option than bread. One 6-inch chapati contains around 15 grams of carbs and 3 grams of protein. She advised people to include roti in their daily diet, stating that it is an excellent source of energy and helps maintain healthy blood sugar levels.
Dhir emphasized that people should avoid consuming processed foods such as bread, which contain additives and preservatives. She suggested that people should opt for whole-grain bread instead of white bread, as it contains more fiber and nutrients. However, Dhir reiterated that roti remains a healthier option than any kind of bread and should be consumed regularly.
