Self-Acceptance: A Challenging Journey by Rida Tharana
Eloquence in speech remained elusive for Rida Tharana—no words, no audience, no camera. Attempts were made, failures accumulated: first, second, third, fourth. Then the virus intervened, prompting Rida to take a step back. Amidst the chaos, Rida’s phone buzzed incessantly, marking the initiation of their journey.
The realization that Rida is now here, recounting a narrative riddled with highs and lows, is surreal. Rida Tharana, content creator, model, and MC, originally from Coorg but residing in Bangalore for six years, navigated a journey rooted in a small village, witnessing both joys and challenges.
In the backdrop of pure bliss during Rida’s upbringing in the picturesque village, gender never factored into conversations, despite being among three girls. However, Rida’s mother subtly introduced notions like, “You’re a girl; you can’t do this,” “You’re a girl; you should slow down,” and “You’re a girl; you should think about marriage.” Yet, Rodarte’s aspirations aimed for something beyond the norm.
The pivotal moment arrived when Rida resolved to pursue college, strategically selecting science to sway their parents into allowing them to study beyond Coorg. Convincing them proved challenging, with financial instability and societal norms serving as obstacles. Undeterred, Rodarte took a loan, relocated to Bangalore, and embarked on studying biotech and genetics.
Financial constraints led Rida to explore event hosting, where initial struggles with a shaky voice and nervousness gradually evolved through persistent efforts. The onset of the pandemic saw a decline in events, pushing Rodarte into corporate life—an environment misaligned with their spirit.
Amid the rigidity of corporate life, Rida stumbled upon a new path—content creation. Commencing with IGTV during the pandemic, they delved into topics of mental health, self-love, and women’s issues. Transitioning to Reels expanded their platform, attracting a growing number of followers. On November 15th, notifications flooded in, signaling a substantial surge in Rida’s social media presence.
Despite uncertainties, Rida pressed on with their journey, championing self-love, body positivity, and women’s empowerment. Her goal is to serve as a voice for those grappling with challenges, inspiring them to stand up, embrace confidence, and prioritize themselves. The journey endures, and the simple message persists: Love yourself, pursue your dreams, and never relent in becoming the best version of yourself.
