Nita Ambani

As I listened to Nita Ambani’s passionate speech at Harvard University’s annual India Conference, I couldn’t help but wonder if hosting the Olympics is a good idea for India. Ambani, the chairperson of Reliance Foundation, emphasized the need for sustainability and revitalization of existing stadiums. But is this really the right time for India to take on such a massive project?

On one hand, hosting the Olympics could be a great opportunity for India to showcase its capabilities to the world. It could boost our economy, create jobs, and inspire a new generation of athletes. Ambani’s vision for a sustainable and eco-friendly Olympics is also commendable. By refurbishing and reusing existing stadiums, we can reduce waste and minimize the environmental impact of the games.

On the other hand, I think about all the pressing issues that need our attention in India. We have millions of people living below the poverty line, struggling to access basic necessities like healthcare, education, and sanitation. Our infrastructure is often inadequate, and our cities are grappling with pollution, traffic, and waste management. In this context, spending billions of dollars on hosting the Olympics seems like a luxury we can ill afford.

Moreover, the Olympics require a massive investment of resources, including money, manpower, and materials. Can we really afford to divert these resources away from more pressing needs? I’m not convinced that hosting the Olympics is the best use of our resources right now.

That being said, I do think that Nita Ambani’s emphasis on sustainability and revitalization is a step in the right direction. If we can find a way to host the Olympics in a way that is environmentally friendly, socially responsible, and economically viable, then maybe it’s worth considering. But for now, I think we need to prioritize our needs over our wants.

What do you think? Should India host the Olympics? Share your thoughts in the comments!
