A recent study has found that exercise plays a more significant role in maintaining weight loss than diet does. The study, published in the Journal of Applied Physiology, followed a group of participants who had previously lost weight and aimed to determine the impact of exercise and diet on weight maintenance. The study found that while both exercise and diet are important for weight loss, exercise is more critical for maintaining weight loss in the long term. The researchers found that participants who maintained a consistent exercise routine were able to keep the weight off, even if they didn’t follow a strict diet. In contrast, participants who maintained a strict diet but did not exercise regularly were more likely to regain the weight they had lost. The study also highlighted the importance of resistance training in maintaining weight loss. Participants who engaged in resistance training, such as weightlifting, were better able to maintain their weight loss than those who only engaged in cardio exercises. These findings have significant implications for those trying to lose weight and maintain a healthy lifestyle. While a balanced diet is important, it is not enough on its own to maintain weight loss. Regular exercise, particularly resistance training, is crucial for long-term weight maintenance. The study’s lead author, Dr. Kyle Flack, emphasized the importance of making exercise a part of one’s daily routine. “Incorporating exercise into your daily routine is key to maintaining weight loss,” he said. “It doesn’t have to be anything extreme – even moderate exercise, such as a brisk walk, can make a significant difference.”
