The Scottish First Minister fought back tears as she acknowledged the pain and trauma caused to thousands of families who were separated by forced adoptions in the past. Sturgeon’s apology was long overdue and is an important step towards healing the wounds caused by this traumatic practice. As a woman and a mother myself, I can only imagine the pain and suffering that these families must have gone through.

Forced adoptions were a practice that was carried out for many years, and it is only now that we are beginning to understand the full extent of the harm that was caused. It is a deeply disturbing fact that many of these adoptions were forced on young and vulnerable women who were often coerced into giving up their babies.

As a society, we must do more to support women who have been affected by forced adoptions. This includes providing them with access to counseling and other support services, as well as ensuring that they receive the recognition and compensation that they deserve.
