Renowned author, philanthropist, and wife of Infosys co-founder N. R. Narayana Murty, Sudha Murty, has been honored with the prestigious Global Indian Award by the Canada India Foundation at a grand Indo-Canadian gala in Toronto. This award, valued at $50,000, is annually bestowed upon a prominent Indian personality who has made significant contributions in their respective field.

Satish Thakkar, Chairman of the Canada India Foundation, expressed delight in presenting the award to Sudha Murty, highlighting her lifelong dedication to paving the path for future generations and her deep commitment to philanthropy. Murty, gracious upon receiving the accolade from Indian High Commissioner Sanjay Kumar Verma, remarked, “It is my honor to get this award from your country.”

In a heartwarming gesture, Sudha Murty donated the award money to The Field Institute at the University of Toronto, known for its global reputation in fostering collaboration and innovation, particularly in mathematics and various other disciplines.

Amidst applause and laughter, Sudha Murty shared a charming anecdote, stating, “There is a funny thing about this award because Narayana Murty also got it in 2014, and I got it in 2023. So we’re the first couple to receive this award.”

She commended the Indo-Canadian diaspora for serving as a cultural bridge between the two nations, urging them to continue preserving Indian culture on foreign soil. Sudha Murty’s presence at the gala was accompanied by the parents of her son-in-law and British Prime Minister, Rishi Sunak, adding further distinction to the event.
