Patel’s aquatic adventures stretch from Surat’s local Tapi River to the Tithal Sea in Valsad and the expansive shores of Mumbai. Her swimming career began unexpectedly. “I turned to swimming at 58, after finding ground sports unappealing, despite a significant fear of water,” she shares. After initially hesitating, she returned to swimming with renewed determination. “Now, swimming feels indispensable, like I can skip a meal but not the pool,” she adds

Her path has been fraught with challenges. After marrying, she faced skepticism and discrimination, which was unfamiliar from her school days. “Post-marriage, I encountered gossip and negativity, but I remained undeterred,” Patel reveals. This adversity only fueled her resolve. “I wanted to do something meaningful and inspire others,” she explains

Today, Patel’s accomplishments inspire people far beyond her local community. Her collection includes nine international medals, showcasing her skill and relentless spirit. “Age is just a number to me; I still feel young at heart. With hard work and dedication, no task is too difficult,” she asserts.

Bakula Patel’s journey from novice to celebrated athlete is a powerful testament to the impact of passion and perseverance. Her success encourages people of all ages to chase their dreams and break through boundaries, proving that it’s never too late to achieve greatness.
