The Extreme Rules Kim Jong-un’s Wife Ri Sol-Ju Has To Follow
Kim Jong-un, a well-known North Korean politician, was born on January 8, 1982, and has been the Supreme Leader of North Korea since 2011 and the leader of the Workers’ Party of Korea (WPK) since 2012. Kim rules North Korea as a totalitarian dictatorship, and his leadership has followed the same cult of personality as his father and grandfather.
There is no exception in the dictator’s family life, as his wife, Ri Sol-Ju, the First Lady of North Korea, must conform to many extreme traditionalist practices.
Ri Sol-Ju is the current First Lady of North Korea and the wife of Supreme Leader Kim Jong-un. Little is known about her from official North Korean sources, but, outside sources have speculated more about her background. While she has made many public appearances with her husband, she has also spent long periods out of the public eye. In April 2018, state media announced that her new title had been elevated from merely “Comrade” to “Respected First Lady”—considered a significant honour and the first time the title has been used since 1974. At the same time, she began to take on a diplomatic role. First of all, Ri Sol-Ju and Kim Jong-un were forced to marry each other, according to the Korea Times. The newspaper reported that when Kim Jong-un’s father, Kim Jong-il, had a stroke in 2008, he ordered that his son marry Ri Sol-Ju, and there was no questioning of the supreme leader. Ri Sol-Ju had to leave her birth name behind after becoming Kim Jong-un’s wife. Her entire past was deliberately hidden and her real name and year of birth are a mystery to the public, according to South Korean intelligence reports.
Ri Sol-Ju is supposedly the mother of his three children. However, there is information that says she was a singer and cheerleader before getting married to Kim. The first lady of North Korea has undeniably attracted the attention of the whole world. Sol-Ju was not an ordinary citizen before tying the knot with Kim Jong-un. She belongs to a respected and wealthy family. Her mother was the head of a hospital’s gynaecology ward, and her father was a professor. She met Kim through her uncle, who was one of his military advisers. However, since becoming the first lady of North Korea, Ri has not had much time or opportunity to see her family. In the early days of her marriage, Ri Sol-Ju appeared unique and prominent in her country. She became the public’s attention because of her Western-style appearance when she first came public.
However, she was not even allowed to wear jeans. Slowly but surely, her clothing collection is disappearing. Everything was replaced with more conservative clothing and she had to get her husband’s approval. Likewise, her hairstyle has never changed since giving birth to her first daughter. Unlike many first ladies around the world, Ri Sol-Ju cannot appear in public on her own. It is almost impossible to see Ri alone—she is always seen with her husband. Even her children are not allowed to be seen at public events. That’s why, in the age of social media and the internet, not a single picture of the kids has ever been seen.
