In a groundbreaking achievement, Gameto’s innovative Fertilo procedure has successfully facilitated the world’s first live human birth using stem cells to mature eggs outside the body. This pioneering technology offers a faster, safer, and more accessible alternative to traditional In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) .

The Evolution of IVF and its Challenges

Since the birth of the world’s first “test tube baby” in 1978, IVF has become a common treatment for couples struggling with infertility. However, the process can be lengthy, expensive, and emotionally taxing, with risks such as ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome and the physical strain of repeated hormone injections .

Fertilo: A Safer and More Efficient Alternative

Gameto’s Fertilo procedure uses ovarian support cells (OSCs) derived from human induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) to help immature eggs mature in the lab. This method mimics the natural egg maturation process, making the procedure faster and less invasive. A 2023 study showed that Fertilo significantly improved egg maturation and embryo formation, eliminating 80% of hormone injections required in traditional IVF and shortening the treatment cycle to just three days .

A New Era in Fertility Treatment

The first live human birth using the Fertilo method took place in Lima, Peru, at the Santa Isabel Clinic. The mother of the baby praised the Fertilo approach, citing fewer injections and a gentler, less invasive egg retrieval process. Gameto’s Fertilo procedure is now approved in several countries, including Australia, Japan, Argentina, Paraguay, Mexico, and Peru, with Phase 3 trials underway in the United States .

This breakthrough marks a significant milestone in reproductive health, offering hope to millions of people struggling with infertility worldwide. As Gameto continues to advance this technology, we can expect a new era in fertility treatment to emerge, one that is safer, more efficient, and more accessible to all.
