Music lessons for children have always been a topic of discussion among parents, as they recognize its significance in their child’s cognitive and emotional development. Moreover, music therapy is known to be an effective treatment for people of all ages. The Sound Space, a contemporary music center in Mumbai, is making it possible for children to explore the fourth art through specially designed classes organized at their doorsteps.
Founded by two sisters from South Mumbai, Vishala and Kamakshi Khanna, The Sound Space aims to promote Indian music among young people. Vishala says, “We felt that every child that we can reach out to should have music in their life. That was the initial idea behind making The Sound Space a reality to bring music and sound into as many lives as we can.”
The Sound Space is redefining traditional Indian music in the education, healthcare, and corporate sectors through innovative programs, workshops, and welfare initiatives. Recently, the center organized its annual music show, Divy, paying homage to the legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar. Over 80 students from The Sound Space performed at YB Chavan Auditorium in Nariman Point.
