This Former Engineer’s Home Decor Venture is Clocking 25 Cr in Revenue
In 2018, Radhika Koolwal found Urban Space,
an affordable home décor brand for the common people.
It all started when former Engineer Radhika Koolwal noticed that the middle-class population of India are left with no choice when it comes to home décor. All the good quality home décor brands are too expensive, and the local cheap ones are of bad quality. That is when Radhika decided to start an affordable good quality home décor brand.
Radhika Koolwal is a computer science engineering graduate and has worked in Infosys for three years. She left the job to pursue an MBA in marketing. In 2016 she was married into a family who was in the textile business. Radhika was keenly observing the business of her in-laws and that is when she came to the realisation about home décor.
With the help of her husband, in 2018, she founded the B2C brand ‘Urban Space’ which offers good quality bedspreads, cushion covers, curtains, rugs etc at an affordable price. The designs are stylish and modern , similar to the expensive brands, yet the price is low enough that the common people can afford them. In addition to selling on its own website, the products are also available on Pepperfry, Myntra, Flipkart, Amazon, and Ajio, among others.
‘Urban space’ has clocked a revenue of Rs 25 crore in the financial year ending 2022. While the growth had been a slow process, now the ‘urban space’ is having difficulty keeping up with the number of orders that they are receiving. Working with a team of 15 people at the moment, the brand is hiring aggressively and hopes to be a 40-member team by the end of the year.
They further plan to venture into the retail market.
