Social Media these days is on buss about the news of a 2-year-old young pilot from Kolkata – Mahasweta Chakraborty who helped evacuate 800 Indian students from the border of Ukraine, Poland and Hungary as part of Operation Ganga amidst the ongoing Ukraine-Russia conflict. ‘Operation Ganga’ is the name of the initiative launched by the government of India to bring back Indians stranded in Ukraine.

Mahasweta Chakraborty went viral after the tweets from Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Mahila Morcha and Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha’s vice president, Priyanka Sharma. They also tweeted that Mahasweta Chakraborty is the daughter of Tanuja Chakraborty, president of the West Bengal State BJP Mahila Morcha.

Mahasweta, who has experience of four years as a pilot, flew six flights between February 27 and March 7. This was soon after Russia invaded Ukraine on February 24 under ‘special military operation’. According to Mahasweta, it was overwhelming to be selected for this mission. It was an experience of a lifetime for her. She is very proud to be a part of this operation.

Mahasweta Chakraborty was also a part of the Vande Bharat Mission during the pandemic. In this mission, she was responsible for flying oxygen concentrators from abroad and vaccines to Kolkata and other airports from Pune.
