Top Women Table Tennis Players Dominate in Round of 32 at Senior National Championships
The 84th Senior National Table Tennis Championships witnessed top-seeded Manika Batra and second-seeded Sreeja Akula, the defending champion, secure comfortable victories over their opponents to advance into the Round of 32 in women’s singles. The two players dominated their matches with their impeccable skills, making it look easy.
Reeth Rishya, Diya Chitale, Sutirtha Mukherjee, Anusha Kutumbale, Swastika Ghosh, and Prapti Sen, all seeded players, also registered comfortable wins to advance in the tournament. However, the highlight of the day was the closely contested matches between former national champions Ankita Das and Shamini Kumareshan.
Ankita struggled initially against her opponent from Chandigarh, Pelf, who won the first two games. But Ankita rallied back to level the scores before finally prevailing in a hard-fought match. In contrast, Shamini could not keep up with the consistency of Deshna Vanshika from Karnataka and lost the match in the decider.
Other notable matches included Archana Kamath’s victory over Dipanwita Basu and Suhana Saini’s close win over Trisha Gogoi. Meanwhile, Moumita Datta of West Bengal struggled to close out the match against Deepika Neelakandan of Tamil Nadu.
The tournament has showcased the skill and tenacity of women’s table tennis players, with intense competition in every match. The top seeds have already advanced, but with several closely contested matches, it’s clear that the battle for the championship title is far from over.
