The UK Cabinet Office released British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak’s register of ministerial interests, shedding light on his wife Akshata Murthy’s business dealings. The register revealed Murthy’s shares in Koru Kids, a childcare agency, which is currently under investigation by Parliament’s Commissioner for Standards for possible improper declaration in last month’s budget.

The register stated that “The Prime Minister’s wife is a venture capital investor. She owns a venture capital investment company, Catamaran Ventures UK Limited, and a number of direct shareholdings.” It also clarified that Sunak’s own financial interests are managed through a “blind trust/blind management arrangement.”

The revelation of Murthy’s business interests sparked calls for transparency from opposition parties, who want the prime minister to publish an updated list of ministerial interests. Murthy and Sunak previously faced criticism over Murthy’s “non-domiciled” tax status when Sunak was the finance minister. She has since relinquished the status and committed to paying British tax on her global income.
