Emine Dzhaparova, the Deputy Foreign Minister of Ukraine, has recently sought India’s assistance in resolving the ongoing conflict with Russia. The Ukrainian official met with Indian External Affairs Minister, S. Jaishankar, during her visit to India and urged him to support Ukraine’s efforts to end the war and restore peace in the region.
The conflict between Ukraine and Russia began in 2014 when Russia annexed Crimea, a Ukrainian territory, and supported separatist movements in eastern Ukraine. The fighting has claimed thousands of lives and displaced millions of people, creating a humanitarian crisis in the region.
During her meeting with the Indian External Affairs Minister, Dzhaparova highlighted the importance of India’s support in resolving the conflict peacefully. She expressed her hope that India, being a key member of the United Nations Security Council, would play a vital role in supporting Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
India and Ukraine share strong historical ties, and their bilateral relationship has been growing in recent years. India has been supporting Ukraine’s efforts to defend its sovereignty and territorial integrity, and the two countries have been working closely in various fields, including defense, trade, and education.
India has also been a vocal supporter of Ukraine’s position in the conflict with Russia. In 2014, India had abstained from a United Nations General Assembly resolution that condemned Russia’s annexation of Crimea, but it had made it clear that it supported Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
