A two-year-old Ukrainian refugee has received the “gift of sound” after undergoing a successful cochlear implant surgery in the United States. Zlata Kuzmina, who was born deaf, came to the US with his mother as refugees seeking a better life and medical care.

The surgery was performed by a team of doctors at the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary in Boston, and Zlata was able to hear for the first time soon after. His mother expressed her joy and gratitude, saying, “I can’t describe how happy I am that he can hear now.”

The cochlear implant is a small electronic device that is surgically implanted into the inner ear and can provide a sense of sound to people who are deaf or have severe hearing loss. The surgery is performed under general anesthesia and takes a few hours to complete.

Zlata successful surgery is a testament to the power of medical advancements and the generosity of the human spirit. With the gift of sound, she will now have the opportunity to learn and communicate with the world.
