Veteran Singer Lata Mangeshkar Passes Away At the Age of 92
The demise of the nightingale of India left everyone shocked as she breathed her last on Sunday, 6th February, 2022
The 92-year-old acclaimed singer, Lata Mangeshkar, breathed her last at Breach Candy Hospital, Mumbai on Sunday, February 6,2022. She was admitted to the hospital in January after testing positive for Covid-19 and pneumonia. The Indian government has announced two days of mourning from Sunday, during which the national flag would be flown at half-mast throughout the country.
The nightingale of India was first tutored by her father, Pandit Deenanath Mangeshkar, a renowned Marathi musician and theatre artiste. After the death of her father, the family moved to the then Bombay, where Mangeshkar began singing in Marathi movies. She recorded her first Hindi song called “Mata Ek Sapoot Ki Duniya Badal De Tu” for the Marathi feature Gajaabhaau, which was released back in 1943. Moreover, she got her big break in 1949 with a song called “Aayega Aanewala” for the movie Mahal. Throughout her long-lasting career, she had collaborated with some of the most popular names of Hindi music industry, including Anil Biswas, Shankar Jaikishan, Naushad Ali and SD Burman among others.
The news of her demise left everyone shocked as it broke. Several politicians and Bollywood celebrities rushed to pay their last respect to the legendary singer. Prime Minister Narendra Modi said Mangeshkar’s death left a “void in our nation that cannot be filled”. He tweeted “Lata Didi’s songs brought out a variety of emotions. She closely witnessed the transitions of the Indian film world for decades. Beyond films, she was always passionate about India’s growth. She always wanted to see a strong and developed India” . Besides, The official handle of Congress India tweeted, ”Congress President, Smt. Sonia Gandhi has expressed deep concern about the health of India’s singing legend, Lata Mangeshkar & has prayed for her early recovery. Smt. Gandhi said, ‘Generations have grown up listening to her melodious voice. India needs her’.”
