Vice President of the United States, Kamala Harris, arrives in Ghana

Vice President Kamala Harris of the United States arrived in Accra, Ghana, on Monday, August 2, 2021, for her first visit to Africa since taking office. During her visit, she pledged to increase investment in the continent and strengthen economic ties between the United States and African countries.

Harris spoke about the importance of partnerships between the US and Africa, stating that they are crucial to addressing the pressing challenges of the 21st century. She emphasized the need to work together on issues such as climate change, economic growth, and security.

Harris also spoke about the COVID-19 pandemic and the importance of equitable access to vaccines. She promised that the US would donate an additional 1 million doses of the Pfizer vaccine to Ghana, bringing the total number of doses donated by the US to the country to 2.7 million.

In addition to her meetings with Ghanaian officials, Harris also met with civil society leaders and entrepreneurs. She highlighted the importance of promoting democracy, human rights, and good governance, as well as the need to support women and girls. Harris’s visit to Ghana is part of a broader effort by the Biden administration to strengthen ties with African nations.
