Who Changed the Face of Driving Forever?
Mary Anderson’s windscreen wiper invention changed driving safety forever.
Imagine driving on a rainy day without windscreen wipers. That was life before Mary Anderson’s amazing invention!
In 1902, Mary visited New York City and saw streetcar drivers struggling to see through foggy windshields. She thought, “There must be a better way!” Mary, an American inventor and businesswoman, decided to solve this problem.
Mary created a swinging arm with a rubber blade that cleared rain and snow from windshields. Her design was simple yet genius! Drivers could now see clearly, making roads safer for everyone.
People initially thought her idea was unnecessary, but Mary didn’t give up. She patented her invention in 1903, and soon, windscreen wipers became a standard feature in cars.
Today, we take windscreen wipers for granted, but Mary’s innovation revolutionized driving. She proved that one person’s idea can make a huge difference!
