A 20-year-old woman, Kaylin Gillis, was shot by a man in rural New York state on Saturday when she and her friends accidentally drove up the wrong driveway. The incident occurred in the town of Hebron when Kaylin and her friends drove into Kevin Monahan’s driveway by mistake. As they were leaving, 65-year-old Monahan opened fire and Kaylin was hit. The man who shot Kaylin has been charged with second-degree murder. The area where the incident took place is rural, and the driveways are not well-lit. However, Kaylin’s friends did not leave the car or try to enter Monahan’s house.

The police stated that there was no reason for Monahan to feel threatened by the young adults. Kaylin’s friends tried calling for help from a nearby town, but unfortunately, Kaylin did not make it and was pronounced dead by paramedics. Monahan did not cooperate with the investigation and refused to exit his house to speak with the police.

This incident is the second of its kind in the US in the last few days. In Kansas City, Missouri, a 16-year-old boy was shot at by a homeowner after he rang the wrong doorbell by mistake. Ralph Yarl was supposed to pick up his brothers from a friend’s house but went to the wrong address by mistake. The homeowner opened the door and shot Ralph twice in the head and arm, according to the family’s attorneys. Ralph’s shooting sparked protests in the city, with people taking to the streets demanding justice for him. The incident highlights the need for greater education and awareness about gun safety, especially in rural areas.

The tragedies also highlight the need for gun control laws to prevent such incidents in the future. A GoFundMe page has been created to help Kaylin’s family gather money for her funeral and other expenses. It is important to recognize the impact of such tragedies on the victims’ families and work towards creating a safer society for all.
