Yashoda Lodhi, known as “Dehati Madam,” is an English teacher from a rural area in Uttar Pradesh. Through her YouTube channel, she teaches English to many people in the Kaushambi region. Despite her humble background, Yashoda’s talent has allowed her to overcome poverty and earn more money than government employees.
Raised in a modest home and attending a Hindi medium school, Yashoda faced familial disapproval when she met her spouse. After being kicked out of her brother’s house, she decided to take control of her life and get married. However, her husband’s accident left him unable to work, putting financial strain on the family.
In November 2021, Yashoda Lodhi bought her first smartphone and was inspired by motivational videos to create her own content. Despite her initial unfamiliarity with technology, she was determined to support her family and empower the women in her village. Yashoda started her YouTube channel, teaching English to others.
Her videos as “Dehati Madam” went viral on social media, where she shared her struggles and the challenges her family faced on a meager income. Through hard work and dedication, Yashoda’s channel grew to over 200,000 subscribers. She now earns between Rs 70,000 and 80,000 per month, surpassing the income of government employees in her village.
Yashoda Lodhi’s story exemplifies how social media has provided a platform for talented individuals in remote areas to showcase their skills and improve their lives. Through her YouTube channel, she has not only overcome the language barrier for herself but has also empowered others to learn and speak English.
