Young Climber Saanvi Sood Conquers New Heights
At just eight years old, Saanvi Sood from Punjab’s Rupnagar district defies expectations by embracing her passion for trekking and mountain climbing. Last year, she hoisted the Indian flag at the base camp of Mount Everest, an achievement that made her the youngest girl in India to do so, according to her proud father Deepak Sood.
Saanvi’s mountain conquests began with scaling Africa’s highest peak, Mount Kilimanjaro (5,895 meters), at the age of seven, making her Asia’s youngest girl to achieve this feat. Undeterred, she continued her journey this year. In May, she conquered Australia’s highest peak, Mount Kosciuszko (2,228 meters), followed by Russia’s Mount Elbrus (5,642 meters) in July, where she became the world’s youngest girl to reach the summit.
For her remarkable contributions in the field, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann honored Saanvi with a state award on Independence Day. Her father’s support and influence, due to his work as a civil contractor in mountainous areas, played a pivotal role in her development. Accompanying her father to his work sites, Saanvi’s stamina and inclination for trekking became evident.
Despite her commitment to mountaineering, Saanvi maintains her focus on academics with the assistance of her mother’s note preparations. Teachers praise her balanced approach to studies, highlighting her efficient time management and disciplined routine. Even after completing a mountain climb, such as the recent Mount Elbrus expedition, Saanvi’s dedication remains unwavering as she attends school shortly after her return.
As a third standard student in a Mohali-based school, Saanvi aims to exemplify that girls can achieve anything through physical and mental strength. Her journey serves as an inspiring example for all, emphasizing that determination and resilience know no age limits.
