Zeenat Aman Shares Her Journey of Overcoming Ptosis with Surgery

In an Instagram post on November 7, Zeenat Aman candidly revealed her diagnosis and the surgery she underwent in April 2023.

In her heartfelt message, Zeenat Aman recounted the day of the surgery, sharing, “On 18th May 2023, I shot for the cover of Vogue India. On 19th May 2023, I woke up early in the morning, packed a small suitcase, and kissed Lily on her muzzle. Then Zahaan and Cara drove me to Hinduja Hospital in Khar.” The surgery was a significant step for Zeenat as she had been living with ptosis, which resulted from an injury many decades ago, causing her right eyelid to droop over time. This condition had begun to obstruct her vision in recent years.

Zeenat Aman’s career, much of which depended on her appearance, was impacted by this condition, leading to unwarranted attention and questions. She revealed, “I know for a fact that this ptosis narrowed my opportunities and made me the subject of unwanted attention. But despite the gossip, the comments, and the questions, I never felt diminished by it.” Zeenat’s resilience in the face of these challenges was commendable, and she continued to find support from those who stood by her.

After decades of unsuccessful treatments, she finally decided to pursue surgery upon receiving the advice of a leading ophthalmologist in April. Zeenat described the day of the procedure as terrifying, with her body racked by shivers. However, she emerged from the operating room an hour later, feeling relieved and looking like a pirate with an eye patch. Zeenat’s recovery has been slow but steady, and she expressed gratitude to her family, the hospital staff, and Dr. Savari Desai for their unwavering support and medical expertise.

Despite the challenges she faced, Zeenat Aman is gearing up for her comeback in the film ‘Bun Tikki,’ produced by fashion designer Manish Malhotra and featuring Abhay Deol and Shabana Azmi.
