39-year-old Laxmi who built a business on grit and perseverance
Women’s day is celebrated on March 8th of every year throughout the world. International Women’s Day (IWD) is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women “International days and weeks are occasions to educate the public on issues of concern, to mobilize political will and resources to address global problems, and to celebrate and reinforce achievements of humanity” says the United Nations and adds that the existence of international days predates the establishment of the United Nations, but the UN has embraced them as a powerful advocacy tool.
The life of 39-year-old Laxmi can be a source of inspiration for the number of women looking for encouragement to surmount the odds, as the lives of women like her are meant to be celebrated on Women’s Day. Despite her frugal means and humble beginning, Laxmi has, through her self-belief and efforts, built a business of which she feels proud. After doing different jobs, including one at a hospital and a play school, Laxmi got headlong into the dry cleaning and ironing clothes business.
Her husband, who had lost his job during the Covid pandemic, supported her in her endeavors.
The beginning was tough. Every day Laxmi rode her two-wheeler for around 15 kilometers to deliver and pick up clothes meant to be pressed or dry-cleaned and delivered back to the clients. Traveling with a neatly packed stack of clothes inside sheets of cover and taking them to and from the clients was inevitably challenging, but she became used to it.
Success comes to those who dare and act. Hence women can achieve success by acquiring the qualities like Patience, Hard work, and Determination.
