Salima Tete Wins AHF Emerging Women’s Player of The Year Award

Indian hockey player Salima Tete has been awarded the Asian Hockey Federation’s (AHF) Emerging Women’s Player of the Year award for her outstanding performance in the sport. The award recognizes young players who have shown immense potential and talent in the field of hockey and are expected to make significant contributions to the sport in the future.

Tete, who hails from the state of Jharkhand, made her debut for the Indian women’s hockey team in 2019 at the age of 17. She played a crucial role in the team’s performance in several tournaments, including the FIH Hockey Olympic Qualifiers and the Tokyo Olympics 2020.

Expressing her joy over receiving the award, Tete said, “I am extremely happy and honored to receive this award. It is a huge motivation for me to continue working hard and contributing to the growth of hockey in India.”

Tete has been a part of the Hockey India National Camp since 2018 and has been training under the guidance of renowned coach Sjoerd Marijne. She has been praised for her defensive skills and her ability to read the game, which has helped her team in crucial moments.

The AHF Emerging Women’s Player of the Year award has been previously won by several other Indian hockey players, including Rani Rampal, Lalremsiami, and Vivek Prasad.
