Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, Congress general secretary and granddaughter of former Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, appealed to the people of Chikkamagaluru to support the party in the upcoming Karnataka Assembly Elections, which are scheduled to take place on May 10. During a rally in Balehonnur, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra reminded the people of the area of her grandmother’s victory in a by-election in Chikkamagaluru and how the people stood by her during difficult times. She also accused the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of cheating the public and failing to fulfill their promises, including providing jobs for youths and increasing agricultural income, during their tenure. Priyanka Gandhi Vadra stated that the Congress had launched various schemes to support farmers, provide education, and food for the needy, and that they would reintroduce these schemes if elected. Priyanka Gandhi Vadra also talked about the issue of corruption in the state, saying that every recruitment involved corruption and contractors had committed suicide because they were unable to pay bribes to clear their bills. She highlighted that private education institutions and the contractors’ association had written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi about corruption, but they are yet to receive a response.
