West Bengal CM assures preparedness for Cyclone Mocha, urges caution in coastal areas

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has reassured the people of the state that necessary safety precautions have been taken for the approaching Cyclone Mocha. While addressing the media on Monday, she stated that there is no need to panic as the cyclone may not make landfall in the state. Banerjee also emphasized that the coastal areas of the state have been put on alert and urged residents to remain cautious.

The Alipore Meteorological Department has stated that the depression formed over the Bay of Bengal will not have much impact on the state, but control rooms have been set up in the secretariat as well as in several districts as a precautionary measure.

Relief materials have also been stocked, and fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea. Cyclone Mocha is predicted to move towards the Bangladesh-Myanmar coast on May 11. Banerjee’s statement comes as a relief to people in the state, who have been facing challenging times due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic
