Resilient Village in Manipur Defies Violence
In Manipur, a state in northeastern India that has been plagued by violence for decades, one village stands out as a symbol of resilience. The village, located on the edge of the state’s border with Myanmar, has managed to maintain peace and security in the face of widespread conflict.
This community has been nicknamed “the other side” due to its remote location and the fact that it is separated from the rest of Manipur by a river. Despite being cut off from the rest of the state, the village has managed to establish strong bonds with neighboring communities and has even welcomed refugees fleeing violence across the border in Myanmar.
The village has also taken innovative steps to promote economic development and improve the lives of its residents. For example, it has set up a community-owned power plant that provides electricity to households in the village, as well as neighboring areas. This has enabled residents to pursue income-generating activities such as weaving and agriculture and has also helped to improve the overall quality of life in the village.
