Breaking the Chains: Youth Apprehended for Blackmailing Women on Social Media

In a disturbing incident shedding light on the vulnerabilities women face in the digital age, Mizoram Police’s cybercrime unit apprehended a 23-year-old man for blackmailing women on social media. The arrest took place in Sesih village, located in Champhai district on the Mizoram-Myanmar border.

The accused, identified as Mungliankapa, had allegedly targeted two women through Facebook and an unknown phone number. The victims, residing in Farkawn and Aizawl, came forward with their harrowing experiences, prompting swift action from the authorities.

One victim reported that an individual named “Nunpuia” messaged her, claiming to possess her explicit photograph. Threatening to make it public, the blackmailer demanded she send another nude photo. Meanwhile, the other victim received similar threats from an unidentified person via an undisclosed phone number.

Diligent investigation and thorough analysis of electronic evidence led to the identification and subsequent arrest of Mungliankapa by the Cybercrime Police Station team.
