Empowering Parents: Take Time
In her debut book, Take Time, Mumbai-based psychologist, special educator, and psychotherapist Alisha Lalljee aims to bring awareness and early intervention to the forefront of discussions surrounding disabilities, particularly in children. With the launch of her book at Title Waves in Bandra, Alisha seeks to shed light on the challenges faced by individuals with disabilities and emphasizes the importance of giving them the time they need.
The 133-page book delves into various disabilities, including learning disabilities, intellectual disabilities, autism, cerebral palsy, muscular dystrophy, as well as visual and hearing impairments. Alisha, who runs a clinic in Bandra, wrote this book with a special focus on parents who often lack awareness about their child’s condition. Approximately 15 percent of the world’s population deals with some form of disability, whether diagnosed or undiagnosed. Alisha’s goal is to address the concerns and questions of parents, providing them with valuable insights and strategies to navigate the challenges their children face.
Take Time goes beyond awareness, offering a comprehensive understanding of various therapies, such as occupational therapy, physical therapy, speech therapy, and more. Alisha emphasizes the importance of a multidisciplinary approach to ensure a child’s holistic well-being, inclusive education, and proper diet and nutrition.
Additionally, the book debunks common myths associated with disabilities, aiming to dispel misconceptions that often contribute to the anxiety experienced by parents. Alisha reassures parents that a disability does not define their child’s future, highlighting the importance of a broader perspective beyond academics.
Through Take Time, Alisha aspires to alleviate parental anxiety and empower families by providing them with the necessary knowledge and support. She also hopes to make the book accessible to a wider audience by translating it into various languages, ensuring that even those at the bottom of the socio-economic pyramid can benefit from its valuable insights.
