American sprinter and long jumper, Tori Bowie, tragically passed away at the age of 32 due to childbirth complications, according to a report in USA Today. She was in labor at her Florida home when she died.

Her agent, Kimberly Holland, clarified that speculations suggesting self-harm were hurtful and hoped for apologies now that the truth had been revealed. An autopsy report accessed by USA Today indicated that Bowie was almost eight months pregnant and had a “well-developed fetus” at the time of her death. Potential risks for the athlete included respiratory distress and eclampsia, a condition characterized by seizures resulting from a sudden increase in high blood pressure during pregnancy.

The Orange County Medical Examiner Officer concluded that the cause of death was natural. Bowie’s passing was discovered when the sheriff’s office conducted a well-being check after she had not been seen or heard from for several days.

Throughout her career, Bowie achieved remarkable success, winning three Olympic medals at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games, including gold in the 4×100-meter relay, silver in the 100-meter relay, and bronze in the 200-meter race. She also secured gold medals in the 100-meter race and the 4×100-meter relay at the 2017 World Championships.

Her most recent major international competition was the World Athletics Championships in 2019, where she finished fourth in the long jump. Her last official competition took place in June 2022.
