Tammy Beaumont’s Historic Century Shines in The Hundred
In an extraordinary display of skill, Tammy Beaumont, a seasoned English opener, etched her name in history during the Women’s Hundred tournament. Leading Welsh Fire against Trent Rockets, she became the first centurion in the women’s edition of the tournament, setting a new record for the highest individual score in the history of The Hundred, regardless of gender. Her remarkable century was achieved in just 52 deliveries, capturing everyone’s attention.
On August 14, Tammy Beaumont showcased her prowess by aggressively taking charge from the start. Partnered with Sophia Dunkley, she demonstrated control and authority, even against Alana King’s challenging spell. Her attacking approach was evident against Bryony Smith, who struggled against Beaumont’s relentless assault, conceding 52 runs from 20 deliveries.
With an impressive 20 boundaries and two sixes, Beaumont’s outstanding innings finally concluded. Her remarkable feat made her the third centurion in The Hundred’s history, following last year’s achievements by Will Jacks and Will Smeed in the men’s tournament.
Notably, Beaumont’s dynamic performance significantly contributed to Welsh Fire’s total of 181 runs. Despite a strong start by Rockets’ openers Lizelle Lee and Bryony Smith, they fell short, managing only 140/5. This victory marked the fourth win for Welsh Fire’s women’s team, solidifying their top position on the points table.
