Women’s Bagpiper Band Shines on Independence

In a remarkable first, Chhattisgarh witnessed the captivating performance of a women’s bagpiper band during its Independence Day celebrations. This unprecedented display added a new level of patriotic fervor to the event, leaving the audience spellbound in the capital city of Raipur.

The band’s special performance not only caught the attention of Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel, the guest of honor at the Raipur celebration but also captivated the entire crowd. Led by Bandmaster Renuka Chouhan, the women bagpipers executed an impressive and synchronized kick march, accompanied by patriotic tunes, marking a historic moment.

Renuka Chouhan, the bandmaster, proudly shared that the band consists of around 35 talented members from the 20th Battalion in Mahasamund. These skilled musicians underwent rigorous training in Haryana, where three bandmaster leaders honed their stick-handling techniques. Over six months, the team immersed themselves in learning the intricacies of playing the bagpipes and mastering various types of march-past routines.

Filled with enthusiasm, Renuka expressed that prior to this endeavor, the team members were unfamiliar with bagpiper bands, having only heard about brass bands. Their dedication and perseverance paid off, as they successfully became Chhattisgarh’s very first women’s bagpiper band.

Renuka emphasized the challenges they overcame during training, ensuring they could skillfully handle the instruments while maintaining synchronized footwork during the march-past. Their triumphant performance was a testament to their hard work and determination, showcasing their commitment to breaking new ground and creating history.
