U.S. Open Women's Doubles Title Winners 2023

Gabriela Dabrowski and Erin Routliffe, a Canadian-New Zealand pair, clinched their first Grand Slam women’s doubles title at the U.S. Open. This victory came after just their fourth tournament together, where they defeated the 2020 champions, Laura Siegemund and Vera Zvonareva, with a score of 7-6 (9), 6-3 on Sunday.

The No. 16 seeded Dabrowski and Routliffe had joined forces earlier in the summer in Montreal. In a closely contested tiebreaker, both teams had set points, but they managed to secure a critical win. They swiftly gained control in the second set by breaking Zvonarena’s serve in the first game and Siegemund’s in the third, taking a 3-0 lead.

Although the No. 12 seeded opponents won the next two games and narrowed the score to 4-3 after Siegemund held during a lengthy game, Dabrowski and Routliffe maintained their composure and won the next two games to secure the title.

Siegemund and Zvonareva, who had won four championships as a team, had paired up for the first time when they clinched the Flushing Meadows title. This achievement was notable as it took place in a tournament without fans due to COVID-19 restrictions.

Siegemund, who had faced criticism from fans for her slow play in the first round against women’s singles champion Coco Gauff, expressed her gratitude for playing in front of an audience again, emphasizing the difference from the restricted events of 2020.
