Mayim Bialik Questions Silence on Hamas Actions
“Jeopardy!” host Mayim Bialik criticized feminists for their silence on the rape and murder of women during the Oct. 7 terror attacks by Hamas in Israel. Bialik expressed concern about the absence of unequivocal condemnation from women’s organizations worldwide regarding the documented cases of brutal gang rapes, sexual torture, and the murder of fetuses carried out by Hamas.
She called out the United Nations, specifically UN Women and the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women, for taking 50 days to express “alarm” about the atrocities. Bialik highlighted the efforts of Israeli women’s rights groups and officials in documenting cases of rape and gender-based atrocities, emphasizing that their evidence has been ignored by the United Nations.
Sarah Weiss Maudi, a senior diplomat and legal adviser in Israel’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, shared that despite providing graphic evidence, including documentation of rapes and semen remains on young girls, the UN’s response has been disappointing. The UN Women’s website mentions Israel in the context of the “devastating impact of the crisis in Gaza on women and girls,” without addressing the specific gender-based atrocities documented on Oct. 7.
The Israeli police and the Civil Commission on October 7th Crimes by Hamas Against Women are compiling a database of gender-based atrocities, asserting that sexual violence during the terror attack was widespread, systematic, and endorsed by the Islamic fundamentalist group’s leaders.
In response to queries, a spokesperson for UN Women stated unequivocal condemnation of all forms of violence against women and girls, emphasizing the gravity of sexual violence as a weapon of war. The spokesperson emphasized the necessity of upholding International Humanitarian Law and Human Rights Law.
Bialik’s outspoken critique draws attention to the perceived silence and inaction in addressing the documented atrocities committed by Hamas, particularly in the context of women’s rights and gender-based violence.
