A Dream Come True For Transformation Fellow, Deepika Modi!
Deepika is our Transformation fellow from Noida. She identifies as a Transwoman and works as a Community Mobiliser with our outreach partner Basera. She is originally from Meerut but moved to Delhi some years back to achieve her dream of becoming a professional dancer. In her words, dancing is her oxygen, something she cannot survive without. With the help of Connecting Dreams Foundation, she got the opportunity to train under Dr Mila Mitra, a trained Odissi dancer. Their efforts resulted in a beautiful Saraswati Vandana performance at the National Seminar on Culture & Philosophy on the 14th of August. Deepika’s efforts were much appreciated by the audience of the event. This helped build Deepika’s confidence and further building on it, she performed a semi-classical dance at the Independence Day Celebration of Rajdhani College with the Delhi State Legal Services Authority. Deepika’s talent and hard work know no bounds and the sky’s the limit for her. In her words, “CDF provided me with a guru and an opportunity I had been waiting for all my life”. She now wants to perform on International platforms and we can’t wait to see her as a world-famous artist!
Deepika is one of many successful stories of our Transformation Fellows. Transformation is a program that works to empower the transgender community and progress their chosen careers!
