Directly from the post:

I was invited by Australian Consulate General Chennai to speak on Wear It Purple day on 25th August. Wear it Purple Day is an LGBTIQA+ awareness day especially for young people based in Australia and celebrated every year. Supporters wear purple to celebrate diversity and young people from the LGBTIQA+ community of the country.

During my speech, I spoke a lot about support and inclusion. Family inclusion means on a lot for young transgender and LGBQ persons. It changes their fate. When you are included and treated with love like other children of the family, you tend to enjoy mother’s love, get educated, pursue a very healthy life and live with dignity.

When you are excluded and rejected from your own family, living becomes a nightmare; you are prone to exploitation, stigma, discrimination, rape and violence. You also end up living an unhealthy and then insecure life that becomes a threat to your physical and psychological health.

People like me who fight for our transgender community’s rights are constantly questioned by people about Trans people begging or doing sex work. They ask us to do something. I tell them, why don’t YOU do something? Give them jobs. It’s because they are not given proper opportunities that they take up these jobs which victimizes them.

Thanks to the Australian Consulate Chennai for inviting me for the conversation on Wear it Purple day with the Consulate General Sarah Kirlew. She was a very warm person and I truly loved being in conversation with her. We both were in deep conversation about the need for inclusion of young lgbtqi persons at all places, including families and workplaces.

Thank you Sarah Kirlew and Australian Embassy Chennai for the invitation and the conversation. Sarah, I keep the Kangaroo doll with its spacesuit very safe 🙂

Then, I was invited by Google USA to speak at the Venice Office in California on Thriving Together: Why Inclusion Matters for Trans People. It was an honor to speak at Google just the day after speaking at CSUN.

All of this week is Transgender Awareness Week. Transgender people around the world have constantly endured stigma, discrimination and violence in many forms everyday around the world. TDoR is observed to highlight the challenges faced by us, to stand up together to voice against exclusion and violence faced by the community and to bring visibility to transgender persons and our contributions.

I shared at Google the importance of growing together, thriving together, looking beyond gender stereotypes so that an organization stays sustainable for a better future, by being a better example for a better world. I believe Google is an example already.

In India, less than 5% of transgender people work in Corporates. Many top organizations need to move the needle towards understanding the huge talent that needs to be recognized and recruited, this changes the transgender persons lives from exclusion and stigma to inclusion and a better life.

And then I have been invited to speak at California State University, Northridge USA to offer a Masterclass on mezzo-macro social work interventions in urban communities. I will also be speaking on Innovative and Creative Activism for Gender Equality to MSW students. This is the sixth University I speak in the USA. Indeed truly a pride moment for me, a Tamilnadu born Indian transgender rights activist and artist.

I am indebted to my dear friend Celia Sandhya Daniels who has been a pillar of support to many of my US travels. Through this post I wanted to convey how much I admire and value her. Hugs Celia!
