Artificial intelligence (AI) is transforming the education system worldwide, and India is no exception. AI is significantly changing the way students and teachers learn and teach in higher education, and this has become more apparent since the introduction of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. Personalized learning, improved teacher-student interaction and assessment, predictive analytics, augmented and virtual reality, skill development, cost-effective learning, and inclusive education are the ways that AI is rejuvenating higher education in India.

Personalized learning is a significant aspect of the NEP 2020, which emphasizes the need for individualized learning since children have different learning styles, interests, and aptitudes. AI enables personalized learning by analyzing data about each student’s learning style, strengths, and weaknesses. This results in customized learning paths and content that suit each student’s learning needs, thereby improving their motivation, engagement, and learning outcomes.

AI is also enhancing the interaction between teachers and students by automating repetitive chores like grading and providing comments on assignments. Chatbots are being utilized to provide immediate feedback and support to students, while AI-powered assessments adapt to the student’s performance level, providing a customized assessment experience.

Augmented and virtual reality are being used in higher education to create immersive learning experiences. This technology allows students to visualize complex concepts and interact with virtual objects in a way that was not previously possible.

AI-powered learning platforms and remote learning tools provide students with access to courses that focus on skill development. These platforms offer courses in areas such as coding, data science, artificial intelligence, and entrepreneurship, and also provide students with opportunities to participate in industry-relevant projects, internships, and hackathons.

AI-powered platforms are more cost-effective than traditional classroom-based learning. Remote learning tools provide students with accessible and adaptable learning experiences that cater to the needs of all students. These platforms offer features such as closed captioning, audio descriptions, and subtitles that benefit students with disabilities.

“AI, remote learning platforms, and student skill development are transforming higher education in India by enhancing the quality of education, personalizing the learning experience, and making education accessible to all,” says Vijisha Sahoo, Director of Tech & Innovation, SAI International Education Group. As the education sector in India continues to evolve, AI and other innovative technologies will play an increasingly important role in ensuring that all students receive a high-quality education.
