Astronaut Sunita Williams Celebrates Her 3rd Space Arrival

Indo-American astronaut Sunita Lyn Williams, alongside her crewmate Butch Wilmore, achieved a successful docking at the International Space Station on June 6. This marked Williams’ third space mission, with a total of 321 days, 17 hours, and 15 minutes spent in space. The docking was executed aboard the Boeing Starliner cruise, following their launch atop the United Launch Alliance (ULA) Atlas V rocket on June 5.

In this mission, Williams and Wilmore underwent training as pilots for the Crew Flight Test mission aboard the Boeing Starliner. Despite facing technical delays, the duo safely reached the International Space Station for their highly anticipated mission. Speaking about their arrival, Williams expressed gratitude towards their family and friends, jokingly remarking that their loved ones might be relieved to have them away. She also highlighted the warm welcome they received, including a celebratory dance party.

Williams’ space journey began with Expedition 14/15 in 2006, followed by Expedition 32/33 in 2012, during which she set records for cumulative spacewalk time. Her remarkable career trajectory includes achievements as a naval aviator, test pilot, and instructor before being selected for NASA’s astronaut program in 1998.

Throughout her career, Williams has garnered numerous accolades for her contributions to space exploration and the US Navy. Her awards include the Defense Superior Service Medal, the Legion of Merit, and the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal.
