Bhumi Pednekar Takes a Stand for Equality and Love
Bhumi Pednekar, the critically acclaimed actress of the recent film Badhaai Do, has been vocal about her feelings towards the LGBTQIA+ community. In an interview with ETimes, she shared that she is an ally of the community and firmly believes that love is love, and everyone should have equality in every aspect of life. She added that it’s not up to individuals to have biases and pass judgments on someone’s life and choices.
Bhumi also expressed her gratitude towards the LGBTQIA+ community for their support after she won the Filmfare for Best Actress (Critics) this year. She said that the love the film received is a victory for the community, and it was a sign of the changing narrative in the country. Bhumi shared that Badhaai Do is an extremely important film for her as she has many friends from the community. The film showcased the story of two LGBTQ+ characters – a gay cop played by Rajkummar Rao and Bhumi Pednekar, who is dating another woman.
Badhaai Do won several awards at Filmfare, including Best Film (Critics), Best Actor in a Leading Role for Rajkummar Rao, Best Screenplay Award for Akshat Ghildial, Suman Adhikary, and Harshavardhan Kulkarni, and Best Story for Akshat Ghildial and Suman Adhikary. Bhumi Pednekar shared the award for Best Actress (Critics) with Tabu for Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2.
