Everything Can Wait Except This
Ask any woman what she’d change about her week and “more time for myself” comes up fast. But ask her what she absolutely will not give up, even on the worst days, and you get something sharper: a habit she’s built her identity around.
This week, three women from the SheSight community told us about theirs. Different ages, different routines, one shared truth: the habit isn’t really about fitness. It’s about staying whole.
The 30 Minutes That Hold Everything Together

For Sujatha Nair, it’s yoga. Thirty minutes a day, no matter how packed the schedule gets. In her 50s now, she’s noticed how much movement matters for keeping her joints healthy and her flexibility intact, especially as her body moves through menopause.
“It gives me time to breathe, slow down and reconnect with myself,” she says. Skip it for a few days and she feels it immediately: stiffness sets in, her energy dips, restlessness creeps up. For Sujatha, yoga isn’t a wellness trend. It’s proof that taking care of herself was never optional.
Walk It Off

Ushakumari Sharma’s non-negotiable is quieter but just as firm: her evening walk. Some days she’s exhausted and would rather sit it out, but she steps outside anyway, because she knows what waits on the other side. “A fresh feeling washes over me, and I come back energized,” she says. The science backs her up too: walking has been shown to lift mood and ease anxiety, which tracks with exactly what she feels every time.
When evenings get chaotic, she moves the walk earlier. If that fails, she finds a quick substitute rather than skipping altogether. Miss it entirely, though, and the night gets restless. Her advice for anyone still searching for their own non-negotiable: find the habit that resets you, and protect it fiercely.
Reinvention as a Daily Practice

Shwetha Nayak’s non-negotiable doesn’t look like a workout at all, though sometimes it is one. Every morning, before she steps into her role transforming her organisation, she makes time to transform herself first. Some days that means exercise. Other days it’s learning a new skill or practising one she hasn’t mastered yet. It’s the only part of her day when she isn’t a business partner, a leader, a mother, a wife, or someone’s problem solver. Just herself.
Lately that’s meant learning to ride a Yamaha R15, picking up the dhol, and qualifying as a Woman Independent Director, three unrelated pursuits united by one belief: growth begins where comfort ends. At a stage in life when routines tend to settle, Shwetha keeps choosing discomfort on purpose.
Her take on what happens when she stops challenging herself is the line worth sitting with: “I don’t gain weight. I gain excuses. I become comfortable, predictable, and smaller than my potential.” For her, the healthiest habit isn’t exercise at all. It’s staying curious.
The Common Thread
Yoga, a walk, a new skill each morning: three different rituals, one shared function. Each woman uses her non-negotiable to carve out a space where she answers to no one but herself. That’s the real takeaway this week. The habit that matters most isn’t always the one that burns calories. Sometimes it’s the one that keeps you whole enough to show up for everything else.
