From Passion to Purpose: The Inspiring Journey of Seema and Theeya Jewels
Exposed to the detailed craftsmanship and colorful vibrancy of Indian traditional jewelry since childhood, Seema’s passion for accessories started in the comfort of her home—observing her mother, extended family members, and neighbors get dressed elegantly with poise. This early interest developed over time into a keen passion, and later on, into an adventurous career path with the establishment of her own brand, Theeya Jewels.
Seema describes jewelry as more than just an accessory. “Jewelry gives me the power to express all my emotions. It is a form of self-reflection,” she says. This philosophy laid the foundation for Theeya Jewels, a brand that celebrates personal expression and seeks to redefine how jewelry is worn and perceived.

The Spark of an Idea
While Seema had always possessed an eye for combining pieces and making top-notch looks, it wasn’t until her children left home that she chose to pursue her passion fully. Spurred on by friends who had a huge admiration for her styling sense, she saw the potential in offering her ideas to a larger following. “They would always approach me and tell me, Seema, you should bring your ideas and thoughts for all of us. That’s how I started,” she says.
With that push to make something substantial, Seema started Theeya Jewels. The name of the brand itself is Greek-inspired and translates to “gift of God”—exactly how she perceives jewelry and its ability to bring out inner feelings.
A Path of Learning and Vision
As with any entrepreneurial journey, Seema’s was learning the ins and outs of the business world, doing exhaustive research, and learning how to take her creative ideas and turn them into reality. She wasn’t simply creating jewelry, but pushing against conventional norms. “I wanted to shatter the perception that Indian jewelry is only appropriate with traditional wear. You can make a statement on a daily basis—even something subtle—and still have your personality shine through,” she says.
Her design is culturally transcendent. Seema wishes to make clothes that appeal to Indian as well as Western people. “You have to be confident when you wear something—that’s your style, and your jewelry should reflect that.”

Conquering Challenges with Poise
As with any company, Seema encountered her share of issues. Juggling foreign vendors and how to effectively communicate her design vision across borders were the initial stumbling blocks. Branded marketing and getting her brand in front of the right people was another challenge. “It’s difficult to convey your idea so that it really resonates with the people you need to reach,” she concedes.
In order to fight through such challenges, Seema relied on expert assistance, especially women professionals who supported her mission. Their advice assisted her in developing a stronger brand image. “You have to think out of the box and take a few risks,” she continues. “And above all, have patience.”
Advice for Aspiring Women Entrepreneurs
When asked what message she would have for women embarking upon a similar journey, Seema is adamant: start with fundamentals. “Jot down your thoughts—even the random ones—and begin your research. Have faith in your vision and do it step by step,” she advises. She underscores the need to approach professional assistance, particularly when establishing a business or developing a marketing plan, and invites participation in local groups and women’s networks as encouragement and inspiration.
She also underlines the utilization of platforms such as SheSight Magazine and the Austin Women’s Business Group, which have assisted in magnifying her voice and linking her with entrepreneurs who share the same passions.
Delighting Customers, One Piece at a Time
Customer delight is the core of Seema’s brand. From coming together of unusual pieces on traditional saris to assisting customers with finding the ideal accessory for an updated look, her designs always amaze and enchant. She remembers one such instance at a show in California where one customer was surprised at how a silver show-stopping piece elevated her kanjeevaram sari ensemble—shattering stereotypes in the most refined manner.
Another frequent shopper, having purchased one, was so delighted that she came back the following day to buy a second, saying, “I wouldn’t be able to find this anywhere else.” Several customers now email Seema their outfits for her to personally recommend accompanying jewelry—an experience she finds most fulfilling.

Looking Ahead: A Jewelry Brand for All
As Theeya Jewels expands, Seema is adding more to her line. She recently introduced a teen collection named after and inspired by her daughter. She’s also in the process of developing a men’s line, inspired by repeated requests from customers who think style has no gender constraints.
Her ultimate goal is to make Theeya Jewels accessible and inclusive—appealing to people of all ages and backgrounds. “I want to introduce Indian-inspired jewelry to a global audience. I’ve had many Western clients who wear my designs with their own outfits, and that gives me hope that our culture can be celebrated across borders,” she says.
